The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water is currently seeking to appoint a** Threatened Species Officer**to join our Conservation Programs, Heritage and Regulation Group.
The south east regional team is currently seeking to appoint a Threatened Species Officer who will be responsible for the delivery of, and assistance, in regional threatened species programs, primarily focused on threatened plants and/or threatened ecological communities, to achieve corporate objectives in conservation and biodiversity management, community engagement, customer service, compliance and licensing.
You will have experience in flora and threatened ecological community identification, survey, monitoring, project management and delivery, developing skills in GIS, maintaining data in databases, and project reporting. Skills in threatened fauna will also be considered, with a desire to develop threatened flora skills.
You will enjoy working with a range of partners including private landholders, public land managers, community organisations and volunteers and have a strong and proven commitment to work, health and safety outcomes for yourself, your team and your community partners.
**About You**
To be successful in the role, you will need to have experience in field-based ecology, developing and implementing threatened species conservation practices and mechanisms to deliver programs. In addition, you will have some experience in facilitating community education and stakeholder collaboration and partnerships to implement identified threatened species recovery strategies and actions as well as providing advice to internal and external stakeholders on corporate and legislative requirements related to threatened species.
You must be prepared to work from the Queanbeyan office on designated days and to undertake sometimes strenuous and remote field work across the South East region.
**Essential Requirements**
- A degree in Science or in a relevant natural resource discipline
- A valid Australian driver's licence, with four-wheel drive experience and training preferable
- Willingness to travel in a light aircraft
