The role
The role
We are offering an exciting opportunity for a university student in their final or penultimate year of study to join our Finance Team as a Cadet Accountant. This position will support a range of finance and accounting functions across Council, allowing the cadet to gain hands-on experience and develop practical skills in local government finance.
Duties
Duties will include but not be limited to:
Assist with maintaining the accuracy and integrity of Council's financial ledgers.
Support treasury functions, cash management, and statutory reporting.
Help prepare Council's annual budget and monthly financial performance reports.
Process general ledger journals and maintain asset register data.
Assist with internal and external audit activities.
Provide support across finance areas including Accounts Payable, Receivable, Treasury, Taxation, and Rates.
Undertake other duties as directed by the Team Leader Financial Processes.

You will have
Currently in final or penultimate year of tertiary studies in Accounting, Commerce, Business or Finance.
Good attention to detail, accuracy and ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to work both independently and within a team.
Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and email.
Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
Motivated and eager to learn, with interest in local government finance.
Work experience or understanding of finance/accounting processes is desirable.
The salary range for this opportunity starts at $58,494 (T8) + 12% super.
Salary may be negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
