Fantastic opportunities have arisen to join BEAR Scotland's NW team as an Asset Inspector.
The North West Trunk Road Unit spans approximately 1,422 km of trunk roads through scenic parts of the country, including 1,501 bridges and structures such as the Kessock Bridge (A9 north of Inverness) and the A87 Skye Crossing.The unit covers a large area of Scotland, from Thurso and Wick in the Highlands to Campbeltown in Argyll and Bute, and from Uig on Skye to Perth and Stirling in the central belt.
Role includes: Undertaking weekly daytime Safety Inspections and Safety Patrols to record defects that pose hazards, and carrying out minor repairs where safe to do so.Conducting bi-weekly/monthly night-time Safety Inspections of illuminated assets and six-monthly inspections of reflective assets.Performing walked condition inspections to visually assess asset conditions, identify defects, and contribute to routine maintenance programs.Validating inventory data in the Transport Scotland Asset Management Performance System and updating it as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience: As this role involves interaction with the public, candidates will be subject to the basic disclosure process through Disclosure Scotland.Previous road maintenance experience is preferable but not essential, as training and mentoring will be provided.Good computer skills are required, as inspections are conducted using data capture devices that upload to the Transport Scotland system.
Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel is also beneficial.A full, approved driving licence is essential.
