The School of Biomedical Sciences plays an
important role in the delivery of introductory
virology to diverse professional courses in
Health and Science at QUT including Podiatry,
Vision Science, Clinical Exercise Physiology,
Sport and Exercise Science, Medical
Engineering, Nursing, Medical Imaging,
Radiation Therapy, Nutrition Science and
Paramedic Science as well as our own
undergraduate degree programs. More
advanced virology units are taught within the
curriculum of the Infection and Immunity major
within the Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences
and within the Bachelor of Medical Laboratory
Science..

The successful applicant will be responsible for
the design, development and delivery of units
in virology offered by the School of Biomedical
Sciences. The appointee will play a leading
role in teaching both multi-cohort
undergraduate classes and classes within the
Biomedical Sciences Degree courses.

The appointee will also make a significant
contribution to building the research capacity of
the School of Biomedical Sciences through
successful external funding and supervision of
Higher Degree Students. The appointee will
be a member of the Centre for Immunology
and Infection Control and contribute to the
research portfolio of the centre.

This position reports to the Head of School for
supervision, workload management and for
Performance Planning and Review (PPR).

**Key responsibilities include**:

- Outstanding teaching of virology in units at

multiple year levels, to large multi cohort
classes as well as the development and

facilitate learning.
- Outstanding design and delivery of

student-centred practical and theoretical
learning environments in virology and
closely-related disciplines such as
molecular biology and immunology as
applicable.
- Provide high-quality real-world learning

and authentic assessment in virology and
closely-related disciplines such as
molecular biology and immunology as
applicable.
- Exercise a significant role in learning and

teaching development within the School.
- Provide advice and contribute to

curriculum review and design.
- Coordination of large multi-cohort units.
- Supervision of research students at both
- postgraduate and undergraduate levels.- Undertake high-impact research including

grants and publication in high-quality peer
- reviewed journals.
- Effectively engage with industry partners

and professional associations at
national/international levels.
- Provide advice and support to more junior

academic staff.
- Implementing and administering University

policy within the Faculty with respect to
equitable access to education and
workplace health and safety.

To ensure job flexibility the successful
- appointee may be required to:
- perform any other duties as nominated by

the University consistent with the relevant
classification descriptors detailed in the
Enterprise Agreement. Staff undertaking
any new duties will receive training;
- participate in job rotation or multiskilling in

consultation with their supervisor;
- work across campuses

To be appointed as a Lecturer the successful
applicant must meet the position classification
standards outlined in the QUT Enterprise
Agreement (Academic Staff).

**Type of appointment**
This appointment will be offered on an
ongoing, full-time basis.

**Location**
Gardens Point campus. Research may be
located within the Centre for Immunology and
Infection Control, based at the QIMR in
Herston.

Selection Criteria
1. Completion of a Doctoral qualification in

virology
2. Proven ability to effectively design and

deliver practical and theoretical learning
environments in virology or closely related
disciplines such as immunology or
molecular biology.

3. Proven ability to embed and evaluate
innovative approaches to learning and
teaching, including use of digital
technologies and authentic assessment.

4. Record of independent contribution to high
impact research/scholarship in an area that
would enable links with existing research
programs, and contribute to program
development within the Centre for
Immunology and Infection Control.

5. Successful track record of leading
independent research, commensurate with
stage of career, evidenced by
demonstration of acquiring externally
- competitive research income, including
Fellowships, and/or a sustained track
record of original research publications
with demonstrable leading contributions.

6. Evidence of effective supervision of
research students at both undergraduate
and postgraduate levels.

7. Proven contributions that lead to a high
performance and collaborative culture in
teaching and research.

8. Demonstrated success at developing
internal and external partnerships that
extend best practice and realise
translational opportunities for teaching and
research.

**Remuneration and Benefits**

The classification for this position is Academic
Level B (LEVB) which has an annual
remuneration range of $119,829 to $142,312
pa. Which is inclusive of an annual salary
range of $10
