The Principal Policy Officer provides responsive and strategic advice to identify and develop pathways to decarbonise the energy sector as part of the Victorian Government's Gas Substitution Roadmap. Operating in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and demands, the Principal Policy Officer is required to identify the short and long-term policy synergies that exist across DEECA and with other departments.

**Accountabilities**:

- Identify, analyse and provide reliable and accurate advice and options on a range of overlapping policy issues, with a particular focus on energy policy.
- Provide responsive, succinct and authoritative written and verbal advice to the Energy Group senior executive team on a range of issues, including departmental policy direction and decision-making.
- Pro-actively build and maintain effective working relationships and facilitate the flow of information across the department and with key stakeholders.
- Influence and negotiate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Contribute to the preparation of authoritative reports, papers, presentations, briefs, correspondence and speaking notes for a range of audiences.

**Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications**
- Relevant university / higher level qualifications are desirable in the disciplines of engineering, science and/or legal studies.

**This is a fixed term position available for a period of 24 months. The work location for this position is 8 Nicholson Street, East Melbourne with hybrid work arrangements available.**
