The State Government of South Australia, CSIRO and the University of Adelaide's Australian Institute for Machine Learning (AIML) are actively interested in advancing leading research and development of AI).
The now establishedResponsible AI Research (RAIR) Centre will leverage AIML and CSIRO Data61s existing expertise to focus on the development of cross-cutting responsible AI research and address fundamental responsible AI problems at a sufficient scale for national and international impact.
We are seeking motivated and experienced Postdoctoral Research Fellows B to undertake fundamental machine learning research for projects aligned to one of more of the following themes:
Theme 1: Tackling misinformation, working on attribution and integrity for generative AI.
Theme 2: Safe AI in the Real world, working on foundational reasoning for tool use and physical interactions.
Theme 3: Diverse AI, working on AI systems for safety and diversity.
Theme 4: AI that can explain its actions working on causal AI for a changing world.
The AIML at the University of Adelaide is the largest computer vision and machine learning research group in Australia with over 180 members including academics, research staff and students.
The AIML works on a mixture of fundamental and commercially orientated research projects in computer vision and machine learning.
To be successful you will need:

• A PhD in Computer Science, Engineering or other Machine Learning-related field.

• Programming experience in python, C++ or other relevant language and experience in deep neural networks

• Strong mathematical capability, especially for Theme 1, with applicants holding an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in mathematics, strongly encouraged to apply.

• Experience and demonstratable knowledge in deep learning and one or more of the following: transformer networks, implicit neural functions, graph neural networks and/or probabilistic graphical models; and causal inference.

• An outstanding publication record in top tier machine learning and/or computer vision conferences or journals, commensurate with experience and opportunity.

• A strong work ethic, and the ability to work well independently, and as a member of a broader team, including with industrial, educational and community partners.

• Fluency in written and spoken English, with an ability to communicate scientific ideas to an expert audience.

• Commitment to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion, with applications from traditionally under-represented groups within the Responsible AI community encouraged to apply, as well as those who may have experienced more unusual educational and/or career pathway, prior to completing their PhD.
