The role
As a Clinical Coder you will accurately assign specific morbidity and procedural classifications to patient episodes to meet data reporting requirements of Queensland Health. The clinical coder is acknowledged as having competent level clinical coding skills and knowledge, across a broad range of specialties through a minimum of 2 years (full-time) coding experience in a hospital setting with exposure to various levels of complexity and specialties. In this role you will undertake auditing activities, data verification and clinical liaison to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of inpatient morbidity data. Additionally, you will provide support to other clinical coding staff through advice, guidance and mentoring. This role will involve paid travel to regional facilities across Queensland.
The successful person
Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification in the Classification of Diseases (ICD-10-AM) with the appropriate registration authority, including any endorsements to be provided to the employing service prior to the commencement of duty; and
- Successful completion of a certified Clinical Classification course; or
- Bachelor of Health Information Management or equivalent; and
- Experience of clinical coding in a Tertiary healthcare setting - a minimum of 2-year full-time coding experience.

The State Health Information Management (HIM) and Clinical Coding Support Team provide strategic consultancy advice, support, guidance and mentoring to Hospital and Health Service executive, finance and health information management and clinical coding teams in relation to activity data as it pertains to healthcare funding. This includes health information data flows, activity data standards, clinical coding, coding audit, optimisation opportunities and workflow improvement.
