About the role

We are seeking an experienced Scientist Grade 1 who is highly motivated to become part of a passionate, vibrant and engaged team who will be responsible for:

• Perform manual and automated diagnostic testing
• Performing all routine procedures from point of specimen reception to execution of results for Pathological diagnosis, including specimen dissection
• Assisting with Stock Control
• Compliance with records maintenance and recording of results in line with protocols
• Maintaining all equipment and operating equipment in line with protocols
• Maintaining current scientific knowledge
• Participation in both routine and audit related Quality Assurance activities
• Contributing to continuous improvement and the development of new assays as required
• Participating in training staff
• Liaising with internal and/ or external stakeholders (referring practitioners) regarding test results or referrals as necessary
• Compliance and adherence with Policies and Procedures, Workplace Health and Safety Procedures and Quality Assurance Processes.

To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the essential requirements:

• Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science)
• Membership of AIMS (Australian Institute of Medical Scientists)
• Basic technical experience or demonstrated skills in microbiology diagnostic testing including culture reading, microscopy, identification and susceptibility testing
• Prior experience in clinical diagnostic microbiology laboratory
• Sound knowledge of QC, QAP and troubleshooting
• Demonstrated ability to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification
• Perform duties with a high degree of independence and with infrequent supervision
