Location: Brisbane.  Applicant must reside in Queensland.

Remuneration: $25,000 per year.

Requirements: Two days per month (approximate).

Reports to: Members of Empower Autism.

Our unique governance model pairs an Autistic Co-Chair with an Ally Co-Chair, fostering balanced, strengths-based governance, embedded in mutual respect and equity.

Opportunity

Empower Autism seeks an Autistic leader to join our board as Chair.  The Chair will be an Autistic voice, representing Autistic people, in alignment with Empower Autism's Strategic Framework, Theory of Change and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The Autistic Chair role is a transformative opportunity to make a tangible difference, to champion systemic change, and to lead the governance of Empower Autism.

Support

We have a collaborative, inclusive board with Autistic and Ally Directors. The role comes with support for professional development, training, mentoring, and conference attendance in alignment organisational needs.   The Chair would receive organisational and logistical support.

Responsibilities

Lead our board, ensuring governance alignment with Autistic needs and interests.

Create inclusive spaces in governance that nurture emerging Autistic voices.

Engage with Autistic people including customers, volunteers, employees, directors' and members.

Communicate with Autistic and autism communities, peak bodies, governments and interest groups.

Represent Empower Autism in the media, at conferences, consultations and events.
