We have an exciting opportunity for a Horticulture Apprentice who is passionate, reliable and motivated to join our close-knit team. The successful applicant will be someone who takes pride in their work and is looking to start their career with a reputable company. You can learn on the job with qualified Horticulturalists to mentor you and to gain a Certificate III in Horticulture.

A successful candidate will be required to carry out tasks associated with garden maintenance including using lawn mowers, whipper snippers, hedging equipment etc.

Role Objectives

The primary objective of the Apprentice Gardener in Maintenance is to

  • Maintaining lawns and other green spaces
  • Installing landscapes and seasonal flower designs
  • Monitoring and ensuring plant health

Functional Duties & Responsibilities

Ultimately, you will make sure our clients' gardens and green spaces are always healthy and beautiful.

  • To work as part of a team to assist in the delivery of programmed landscape construction and maintenance projects.
  • Assist in the installation and repair of underground drainage systems, sprinklers and reticulation systems to maintain the optimum condition of our clients gardens.
  • Operate plant and equipment (for example chainsaws, power tools & machinery) in accordance with the requirements of statutory authority regulations and according to site conditions and Council's operating procedures and standards.
  • Ensuring safe work practices are followed at all times, in accordance with Work Health and safety guidelines.
  • Install and maintain seasonal plants
  • Mow, trim and fertilize green spaces
  • Mulch, edge and weed gardens
  • Prune and trim trees and bushes
  • Maintain all gardening equipment and machinery, like mowers, trimmers and leaf blowers
  • Monitor and maintain the health of plants
  • Deal with pest problems that could damage plants
  • Keep gardens and green spaces clear of debris and litter

Required Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Provisional or Class C Driver's Licence.
  • The ability to lift heavy objects
  • The ability to remain on your feet for long periods of time
  • A love of the outdoors and plant life
  • A high school degree

Job Type: Apprenticeship

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift

  • Byron Bay NSW 2481: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
