Join our dynamic team in Sydney as a
Lead Road and Highways Designer
, leading geometric design production for roads, highways, and related civil projects in our Roads & Highways (R&H) section. This position reports to a Section Leader within the Roads & Highways section of the NSW Transport business. The successful candidate will network with peers across the ANZ region to promote productivity and best practices within evolving Digital Engineering frameworks.
This role combines project leadership with championing our transition to OpenRoads technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Spearhead geometric design production on assigned projects
- Serve as OpenRoads Lead, overseeing implementation and training
- Lead design teams on major projects and work independently on medium-scale initiatives
- Provide client-facing support and develop solutions with the engineering team
- Review design output of road designers within project teams
- Contribute to design production using OpenRoads
- Troubleshoot designs and foster a learning culture for team upskilling
- Guide junior designers and remote staff in OpenRoads application and design standards
- Interface with Design Managers, Project Engineers, and offshore Global Integrated Delivery (GID) teams
- Participate in team, project, and client meetings
- Support sales efforts through tender and proposal contributions
Here's what you'll need
- Expertise in OpenRoads and other geometric road design software (12d, Civil 3D)
- Proficiency in creating 3D road design and federated BIM models
- Strong knowledge of design standards, particularly Austroads
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Ability to work in a collaborative, virtual environment
