Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP)
, and we're looking for the best people to help make it happen.

QTMP involves the design, manufacture and maintenance of 65 new six-car passenger trains to support Cross River Rail and the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games. These trains will be built at a new, purpose-built facility in Torbanlea on the Fraser Coast.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced Special Equipment Engineer (Robotics and Automation) who will support the development, integration, and optimisation of robotic and automation systems at the QTMP rail facility in Torbanlea, Queensland. Key duties include enhancing operational efficiency, ensuring system reliability, upholding safety and quality standards, programming robotics, integrating PLCs, deploying vision systems, and aiding proactive maintenance management.

About the role:

The SE Engineer will also be responsible for ensuring that all robotic and automation equipment complies with operational safety standards, working closely with the Zero Harm team. This role will report to the Robotics and Automation Manager and play a key role in ensuring automation systems deliver measurable productivity improvements in a safe and sustainable manner.

Experience:

• 5+ years of experience in Robotics automation and system integration projects.
• Extensive understanding of automation safety protocols and risk assessments.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic schematics.
• Experience with industrial networking and control communication protocols.
• Proven experience in rail manufacturing, automotive, or heavy fabrication environments.
• Hands-on experience with offline/online programming and simulation tools (e.g., SimPro, Robcad, Process Simulate).
• Experience with robotic programming and deployment (e.g., KUKA, Fanuc, B&C).
• Expertise in PLC and HMI development (e.g., Beckhoff, Siemens, Schneider).
• Experience with vision systems and complex sensor integration.
• Experience with AGV/AMR integration and centralized control systems.
• Experience with design and development of tooling and fixtures for automation applications
