We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Meat Inspector to join our team in Queensland. The successful applicant will play a critical role in maintaining our high standards of food safety, hygiene, and compliance with industry regulations.
Your Main Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough inspections of livestock, carcasses, and meat products to identify any disease or quality concerns, and provide guidance where necessary.
- Monitor and enforce hygiene and quality control systems at processing facilities to ensure compliance with government and industry standards.
- Test and examine samples of meat and related products to verify size, purity, and safety requirements.
- Oversee storage, processing, packing, and transportation practices to ensure strict hygiene protocols are maintained.
- Provide advice on best practices for disease control, biosecurity measures, and the economic impact of quality issues.
- Inspect imported and exported livestock and meat products for compliance with biosecurity and food safety regulations, issuing directions to manage risks when required.
- Assist in audits and compliance checks across processing and handling facilities to ensure consistent application of quality assurance procedures.
- Contribute to training and awareness by advising staff and stakeholders on food safety, animal health, and regulatory requirements.
- Support enforcement activities by documenting findings and assisting with regulatory reporting when necessary.
Who We Are Looking For:
- Completion of an AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma in a relevant field, plus at least 1 year of relevant work experience; OR at least 3 years of relevant work experience in lieu of the formal qualification.
- Experience in meat inspection, quality assurance, or related roles within the meat industry.
- Strong understanding of HACCP, food safety, and biosecurity regulations.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and reporting skills.
