About the role

Do you have a wealth of experience in commercial finance and transformation and are looking to take on a role where you can make an impact?  

Join our Commercial Finance team, reporting directly to our Head of Commercial Finance as a Commercial Finance Lead.  This strategic role requires innovative thinking, risk analysis, scenario modelling, and the ability to influence key decisions through robust business cases and data-driven recommendations partnering closely with your stakeholder groups.  You will proactively challenge and support your leaders to think commercially, upskilling and embedding yourself as a trusted partner that is innovative, with the ability to transform, optimising tactical and strategic decision making across the business, translating complex financial information into actionable insight.

You are driven by a culture of continuous improvement, striving to deliver best practice financial modelling, reporting, budgeting, and forecasting processes. You are inquisitive, bold and always looking at ways to improve efficiency and effectiveness of reporting and processes, and happy to work across and influence finance and non-finance stakeholders across all levels of the organisation including across Officeworks Leadership team and the wider Wesfarmers.

As a Commercial Finance Lead, you will:

  • Partner with senior stakeholders to provide strategic financial insight on project planning, budgeting, forecasting, and investment decisions.
  • Develop commercial assumptions informing key investment decisions and ensure the approved outcomes are appropriately reflected in forward financials plans  
  • Analyse the financial and commercial performance of programmes of work and produce insightful packs and reporting for internal investment forums and project teams
  • Support the annual budget process with business stakeholders, including delivery of Officeworks' and Wesfarmers requirements across Profit and Loss (P&L), Balance sheet and Cash flow
  • In partnership with business stakeholders identify commercial risks & opportunities then co-creating action plans to remediate risks / maximise opportunities
  • Engages business stakeholders to increase level of commercial acumen, through upskilling and training, with lenses across the P&L, balance sheet and cashflow that results in accountability of financial targets with a lower cost mindset
About you

Bring your sharp commercial acumen and ability to turn data into stories that drive action. You'll influence decisions by connecting insights to strategy, challenge the status quo, and simplify processes for impact. Your strength in building relationships and engaging stakeholders across the business will set you apart and help shape smarter outcomes.  In addition, you will have:

  • Minimum 8+ years' experience in Commercial Finance roles, ideally within Retail or FMCG
  • CA/CPA qualification, highly desirable
  • Demonstrated experience with Budgeting and forecasting processes, capital investment and/or corporate plan (financial modelling) activities
  • Experience working with operational and commercial stakeholders at GM/Head of level in complex matrix organisations
  • The ability to navigate ambiguous data / information in order to formulate hypotheses and deliver actionable insights
  • Strong critical thinking ability with a proactive approach to continuous improvement
  • Experience using SAP and Power BI platforms with advanced Excel skills (including building operational and financial models)
  • Ability to convert complex information into actionable insights, with a focus on the "so what" and "now what"
