About Us:
Detector Inspector began in 2005 when our founders, Jordan and Jason, recognised an opportunity to make a difference - we could help keep homes safer for renters and make safety compliance easier for property managers.
What started with smoke detector maintenance has evolved into a range of services, including gas appliance servicing and electrical safety checks, all supported by our proprietary technology and self-service client portal.
With Australia's first in-house developed safety compliance system for real estate, Detector Inspector is a technology-driven company committed to continuous improvement and innovative solutions. Regulatory changes are driving demand for our services nationwide, and we're growing fast—that's where you come in.
About the Role:
We're looking for a Software Engineer to deliver high-quality, scalable software that helps unlock efficiencies, reduce operational costs, and enable AI-assisted workflows.
In this role, you'll work across the stack, contributing to automation capabilities, APIs, and integrations that support both immediate cost savings and long-term strategic opportunities. You'll be part of a supportive, technology-driven team that values collaboration, curiosity, and delivering real results.
Core technical skills and concepts you will be required to understand:
- Strong experience with PHP frameworks or similar back-end technologies
- Exposure to JavaScript frameworks (ReactJS, React Native, NodeJS)
- Familiarity with AWS services (Lambda, EC2, RDS, SQS, ECS)
- Experience building and consuming APIs, including third-party integrations (e.g., Zendesk, Atlassian, CRM systems)
- Understanding of CI/CD practices and cloud deployments
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to design and implement automation solutions aligned with business goals
- Build and expose APIs that support off-the-shelf and future internal AI models (e.g., Zendesk AI ticket deflection, workflow automation)
- Take ownership of the full software development lifecycle, ensuring solutions are secure, maintainable, and scalable
- Deliver projects that focus on measurable cost savings and business outcomes
- Contribute to technical standards and ensure code quality aligns with best practices
- Engage in full-stack development, with opportunities to cross-skill across front-end, back-end, and integrations
About you:
You're a problem-solver who thrives on turning business challenges into practical, scalable solutions. You're curious about emerging technologies and automation, enjoy working across the stack, and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. In addition, you bring:
- University Degree or equivalent plus 3+ years of industry experience as a developer or similar.
- Interest in AI/automation and its role in creating efficiencies
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to design scalable solutions
- Experience with Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence)
- Curiosity about commercial AI APIs and models
- Passion for building sustainable, user-centric solutions that deliver measurable business impact
Why Join Us
- Be part of a supportive, collaborative team culture
- Build solutions that deliver tangible business impact
- Competitive salary and flexible working arrangements, including potential for remote work
- Grow with a fast-moving, technology-driven company embracing innovation and modern tech
How to Apply:
At Detector Inspector we believe in opportunities for all and we're passionate about creating an inclusive workplace that represents our community. We encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds who share our workplace values.
