The Opportunity
We're seeking a qualified and experienced HV Cable Jointing Superintendent to join our growing team. In this leadership role, you will be responsible for the supervision and coordination of onsite cable jointing activities, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards. You will lead and mentor a team of HV cable jointers, provide technical expertise, and support the training and development of apprentices and less experienced staff.
Projects include major infrastructure and renewable energy developments, as well as sub-transmission and distribution works. The role is primarily based in Southeast Queensland, with potential for FIFO opportunities to regional and remote projects. This role presents an opportunity to join an organisation with a strong project pipeline and would suit someone seeking stability and growth.
You will:
- Lead, coordinate, and supervise HV cable jointing crews across multiple projects.
- Allocate resources, schedule work fronts, and monitor progress to achieve project milestones.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to cable jointers, apprentices, and subcontractors.
- Oversee the preparation, installation, and quality assurance of HV cable joints and terminations
- Review and interpret electrical drawings, project scopes, and client specifications to ensure correct execution.
- Troubleshoot and direct fault finding, HV testing, and commissioning activities
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with WHS, environmental, and quality management systems.
- Conduct pre-start briefings, toolbox talks, and site safety audits.
- Ensure all works meet statutory, client, and company safety requirements.
- Liaise with project managers, engineers, and clients to coordinate delivery and resolve issues.
- Prepare daily/weekly progress reports, inspection checklists, and QA documentation.
- Support procurement and logistics by forecasting material and equipment requirements
You will have
- Cert III in ESI – Power Systems (Distribution Underground) or equivalent.
- Recognised HV Cable Jointing Certification (up to 132kV highly regarded).
- Current Construction White Card and Driver's Licence
- Minimum 5 years' HV cable jointing experience, with at 2 years in a supervisory or leading hand role desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to manage crews and subcontractors on infrastructure, renewables, and utility projects.
- Experience in HV testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting faults.
- Proven ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, project scopes, and QA documentation
- Excellent organisational and planning skills, with the ability to prioritise competing work fronts.
- High commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work in FIFO or remote environments (experience highly regarded)
