About Barwon Coast

Barwon Coast Committee of Management is responsible for managing coastal Crown land in and around Ocean Grove, Barwon Heads and Breamlea. The coastal Crown land reserves comprise of important habitat for many flora and fauna species, and includes coastal areas characterised by sandy beaches, dune systems, cliffs, shore platforms, and an estuary. Our team construct and maintain a large range of public infrastructure and facilities, including walking tracks, toilets, BBQs, playgrounds, car parks, seats, fences, signs, lights etc.

Our purpose is to care for Country respectfully, preserving the coast for people to connect, understand, and protect whilst enjoying the unique natural environment.

The Role

We are seeking a Coastal Ranger - Open Space who will play an important role in maintaining and improving the grounds and landscapes across Barwon Coast's coastal reserves and caravan parks. You will be responsible for the development and enhancement of our open space precincts.

The Coastal Ranger - Open Space will be responsible for:

  • The consistent and efficient performance of rostered activities including maintenance works such as planting, minor tree maintenance, landscaping, track maintenance, cleaning, mowing, fencing, rubbish management, and other duties as directed.
  • The presentation of the caravan parks, coastal reserves and campgrounds including mowing, brush cutting, site rehabilitation, weed management and minor tree maintenance.
  • Implementation of the coastal reserves annual works and maintenance program including the development and enhancement of Open Space Reserves, Caravan Parks and Camping Reserves.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • "Hands on" practical general gardening maintenance skills.
  • Ability to safely operate horticultural plant and equipment.
  • Ability to identify customer needs and expectations, decide the appropriate action and respond accordingly.
  • Possess the ability to effectively communicate and deal with people with professionalism, courtesy, tact and understanding.
  • Ability to work in a team, displaying respect for all members and working cooperatively towards planned outcomes.

Qualifications and expertise

Desirable:

  • Trade certificate in Horticulture or Parks and Gardens and or significant experience in Parks and Gardens maintenance.
  • Driving Licence (preferably manual) and Light Truck Licence (preferable).
  • The following Certificates; Front end loader; Chainsaw; Farm Chemical Users
  • Experience in identifying and resolving minor maintenance issues.
  • Demonstrated experience in liaising with members of the public, being well-presented and friendly and having a strong customer service focus including the ability to manage difficult situations positively
