Located in South Bowenfels, the Lithgow Campus is considered as a comprehensive community health centre supporting approximately 20,000 people living in the town and surrounding areas. The services available in Lithgow hospital include Domiciliary care unit, Emergency department, Geriatric assessment unit, Obstetric services, Paediatric service, Drug and Alcohol unit.

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Sonographer to oversee the day to day operations and clinical coverage of the Ultrasound section at Lithgow Medical Imaging, part of the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD). This role is vital in ensuring the delivery of high quality imaging services to patients and carers, with a strong focus on safety and optimal health outcomes.

The successful candidate will demonstrate independent clinical judgment and possess the professional knowledge required to perform a wide range of diagnostic tasks with competence and confidence. You will be responsible for maintaining current medical imaging safety standards and contributing to the continuous improvement of patient care within the department.

What you will bring to the role

  • Degree or equivalent in Medical Imaging from a recognised University or equivalent qualifications deemed by the NSW MOH to be equivalent, with extensive post graduate experience and a post-graduate qualification in Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound
  • Registered and eligible to remain on the Australian Sonography Accreditation Registry (ASAR)
  • Preferably AHPRA, Medical Radiation Practice Board Registry and a current Radiation License current NSW EPA Radiation License with GE 1 Radiation License Exemption
  • Demonstrated ability to independently perform a full range of procedures and intervention examinations in accordance with department requirements (inclusive of Vascular, Small Parts, OB&G and MSK etc).
  • Demonstrated management experience and the ability to train and supervise sonographers as well as students while demonstrating effective leadership skills to provide an equitable and supportive working environment. Demonstrated excellent clinical reasoning skills in the performance of complex ultrasound procedure.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise workloads to ensure staff resources and equipment are used effectively and efficiently.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to liaise with hospital staff, private referrers, contracted agencies, patients and family members.
  • Demonstrated understanding of DIAS Accreditation, National Standards and Work Health and Safety legislation and current infection control standards.
