Bowls is an iconic Australian sport with nearly 1,800 clubs of all shapes and sizes making a major contribution to our society – both on and off the green - in metropolitan, regional and rural communities all across the country.

Bowls Australia (BA) is a significant National Sporting Organisation and business of 40 staff and $9-10M turnover per annum, with well-planned ambitions for financial growth for reinvestment into the future of the sport at all levels.

The Australian Jackaroos will next be part of the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games with Bowls one of 10 sports on the program. World Bowls and BA are collaborating on aspirations to become an Olympic and Paralympic sport.

Reporting directly to the CEO, BA is seeking a dynamic and self-driven, results-focused individual as its inaugural Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) to establish a new national commercial model from This shift from the previously outsourced rights-holder model marks a significant transformation opportunity. The CCO is responsible for the development and management of BA's multi-million dollar commercialisation strategy across its national assets of events, sponsorship, digital, broadcast, travel, tourism, hospitality and other new revenue areas. The role leads sales for BA and co-ordinates commercialisation efforts across the business, co-ordinating stakeholders from many departments.

The framework of the new commercial model has been strategically developed in conjunction with industry experts, in the best interests of the future of the sport and in line with the 'Grow Financially' pillar of BA's new Strategic Plan: Action Agenda Bold Bowls | Fun Bowls

Key Areas of Responsibility:

As a proven senior commercial sales leader and manager, you will:

·       Design and deliver the commercial model and long-term sponsorship sales strategy with the CEO.

·       With the CEO, facilitate all reporting to, and work together with, the Board on this prime responsibility of the organisation.

·       Achieve annual budgeted sponsorship and corporate hospitality revenue targets.

·       Identify new commercial opportunities and ensure all commercial obligations to sponsors are delivered.

·       Negotiate long form contracts for all new partnership deals and communicate entitlements to relevant members of BA staff.

·       Ensure excellent relationships with, and servicing of all other partners in relation to events and all other elements.

·       Drive a positive commercially focused culture within Bowls Australia.

Knowledge, skills and behaviours required:

·       Proven track record of negotiating and delivering commercial partnerships, including achieving and exceeding targets.

·       Experience in leading and influencing high performing sales teams.

·       Experience of developing sales strategy and new business initiatives.

·       Experience of strategic prospecting and cold calling capability at an Executive level.

·       Strong network of contacts.

·       High level presentation skills and ability to develop market leading presentations.

·       Experience in the corporate hospitality marketplace.

·       A demonstrable understanding of the sports entertainment industry and related industries including broadcast and digital media.

Major Interactions:

You will engage with a range of key stakeholders, including the BA Board, Senior Leadership Team and all departments, existing and potential Partners and Sponsors of Bowls (Government / Tourism Bodies and Commercial), broadcast production partners and, as required and requested, Bowls Premier League teams/licensees and State and Territory Member Associations.
