About the Role
To develop and complete a multidisciplinary clinical protocol for the management of vertebral crush fractures at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne (SVHM). These fractures, most commonly caused by osteoporosis, are associated with substantial patient morbidity and serve as a critical warning sign for future fractures, including hip fractures.
This protocol would provide a systematic approach to identifying and managing patients admitted with vertebral crush fractures. A coordinated, hospital-wide protocol that engages emergency physicians, neurosurgeons, endocrinologists, radiographers, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists, would greatly improve patient recovery and wellbeing, reduce hospital length of stay and provide more efficient and effective care delivery.
Successful candidates will commence their post with SVHM on Monday 02 February 2026 – Sunday 31 January 2027.
Classifications for this position will range from HM25 - HM30 ($129, $177,622.12 pro rata per annum) + salary sacrifice and excluding super
What you will bring:

About the Endocrinology Unit
The Department of Endocrinology at SVHM actively participates in the teaching program for medical undergraduates, residents and registrars in advanced training. The Department also participates in clinical and laboratory research in topics related to diabetes mellitus, pituitary disorders, and metabolic bone diseases. The Department of Endocrinology works in close liaison with the neurosurgery unit, the endocrine surgery unit, the renal unit and the nuclear medicine department. This position also involves the active medical management of patients at SVPHM under the direction of senior physicians that are visiting medical officers at this hospital.
