Position Summary
The Patient Care Assistant, always under the direction of a Registered health professional and using a level of skills within their scope of practice, helps with providing care, support and services to patients in the hospital.
They assist patients with their personal care needs such as showering, dressing and eating. The care is aligned with all aspects of activities of daily living, physical and social. They assist with ambulation of fully ambulant to wheelchair and bed bound patients.
The Patient Care Assistant is accountable for their actions. The Registered Nurse delegating the tasks remains accountable for that delegation.
Selection criteria - Patient Care Assistant
Essential:
- Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (Acute Care) or equivalent.
- Demonstrated relevant expertise in a related field
- Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated effective problem-solving approach to patient care
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
- Knowledge of and experience with Occupational Health and Safety principals.
Desirable:
- Previous experience as a Patient Care Assistant
- Previous work experience in a private hospital setting
