We are currently seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join one of our Tier-1 banking clients in Sydney, working within the Domestic Payments and BPay squad to modernise and uplift core banking systems and services.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing, developing, and delivering highly scalable and secure solutions within a modern AWS-based environment. This position is suited to engineers who enjoy being hands-on, collaborating closely with architects, and contributing to technical design and best-practice engineering.

You'll be responsible for developing microservices, REST APIs, and event-driven systems while mentoring peers and promoting engineering excellence within a high-performing Agile team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performing backend systems and APIs.
  • Contribute to solution design and architecture alongside domain architects and product managers.
  • Write high-quality, testable code using modern frameworks and engineering principles.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines and implement best practices in DevSecOps and automation.
  • Lead technical discussions, peer reviews, and promote collaboration within the squad.
  • Identify and resolve complex technical challenges with a focus on performance and reliability.

  • Languages:
    TypeScript or Java

    AWS (Serverless, Lambda, ECS, Containers, EC2)
  • Databases:
    Aurora, RDS, Redis, Oracle
  • Eventing:
    Kafka, SQS, SNS, EventBridge
  • Infrastructure & Tooling:
    Terraform Enterprise, GitHub Actions, Artifactory, AKKA, SST
  • Observability:
    Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, CloudWatch
  • Testing:
    TDD, BDD, automation frameworks

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in payments (BPay, NPP, SWIFT, BIAN)
  • Exposure to AI-assisted engineering (Copilot, RAG, Gen-AI, MCP, Agentic-AI)
  • Strong understanding of system and API design, scalability, and performance engineering
