We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced GIS Analyst to join our team

What You Will Do:

As a GIS Analyst, you will help shape how spatial data supports critical decision-making, infrastructure planning, community services and environmental management across the Cairns region. In particular, you will:

  • Promote and expand the use of GIS as a dynamic business intelligence tool.
  • Deliver high-quality GIS analysis and support services to Council departments and the public.
  • Maintain and enhance Council's integrated geospatial database, ensuring up-to-date, accurate spatial information across all operational areas.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Graduate qualifications or Associate degree in GIS, Spatial Science, Geography, Information Technology, or related discipline. Persons possessing lesser qualifications, with extensive relevant experience, may be considered.
  • Demonstrated use of GIS applications to interrogate, manipulate, analyse and produce results that meet internal and external client needs.
  • Sound experience in the application of GIS/IT maintenance methodologies demonstrating understanding of standards and quality assurance / quality control procedures in the management of spatial data.
  • Spatial Industry experience with a focus on delivery of client support. Detailed knowledge of Geospatial terms and work practises.
  • Familiarity with one or more programming / scripting languages such as Python, R, SQL & JavaScript
  • Ability to deliver GIS training tailored to diverse range of user abilities within Council.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to provide a high level of customer service to internal and external customers.
