What you'll be doing

Lead excellence in patient safety, clinical governance, and quality improvement across one of Australia's most advanced healthcare environments.

As the Director, Safety and Quality, you will play a pivotal role in driving a culture of high reliability, clinical excellence, and continuous improvement across a large, diverse tertiary hospital delivering statewide and quaternary services.

Reporting to the General Manager and working in close partnership with clinical directors, nursing, allied health and executive teams, you will oversee the strategic direction, implementation and evaluation of safety, quality and risk systems that support exceptional patient outcomes and staff engagement.

This is an opportunity to influence at scale Embedding evidence-based frameworks, leading accreditation and governance processes, and strengthening safety culture across high-acuity and specialty services.

Selection Criteria:

  • An undergraduate degree in a health related discipline, with significant recent and/or relevant equivalent clinical experience in a complex health care setting.
  • Demonstrated advanced problem solving skills in the assessment, analysis and resolution of complex issues, demonstrating formulation of new approaches and implementation of comprehensive change programs and improvement strategies, with an ability to develop and monitor outcomes to meet strategic and business goals.
  • Extensive experience in patient safety and incident management in accordance with the NSW Health Incident Management Policy, leading Serious Adverse Event Reviews (SAER) utilizing approved incident review methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage human, financial and physical resources effectively and efficiently to ensure budget and performance targets are met.
  • Demonstrated advanced communication skills with an ability to influence, lead, consult and negotiate effectively with a variety of stakeholders and produce comprehensive reports such as business analysis and strategic direction documents.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and lead clinicians within multidisciplinary teams to initiate and achieve significant change and improvements in safety and quality, within a complex health care setting.
  • Extensive practice knowledge of the clinical systems and health services, including demonstrated knowledge of the concepts, principles and practice of Safety and Quality, including patient safety, patient experience, clinical risk, quality improvement and complaints management.
  • Demonstrated experience working at a senior level within a large organization, with an impressive track record.
