What You Will Be Doing:

  • Creating and deliver strategic communication plans and strategies.

  • Lead the development of innovative and creative, community-first engagement initiatives.

  • Proactively and strategically supporting Council's media relations, including preparing for potential issues and developing positive media opportunities.

  • Delivering key corporate publications that reflect the Latrobe City brand and sub brands and meet the objectives of the organisation.
  • Proactively seeking out opportunities to improve and align community and stakeholder relationships and activities being undertaken by Latrobe City Council.
  • Creating engaging content including newsletters, fact sheets, presentations, digital platforms, and online material.
  • Designing, delivering and evaluating evidence-based engagement projects that make a difference.

What You'll Bring

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a sharp eye for detail and editing.
  • Strong understanding of communication and media best practices, coupled with analytical and investigative skills to effectively communicate public policy.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and collaborate across teams and with internal and external audiences.
  • A thorough knowledge of the political and organisational operations of Local Government, especially in a changing environment is desirable.

What You'll Need:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in communications, journalism, marketing or public relations, or significant related experience.
  • Proven experience in community engagement, communications planning, and delivering a range of materials across digital and traditional platforms.

  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in political environments and contribute to a positive team culture.

  • Advanced communication skills—written, verbal, and public presentation—with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong content creation skills, including writing, editing and publishing for news, social media, and marketing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital media tools. Adobe experience also desirable.
  • Strong leadership, time management, and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • IAP2 Certificate or equivalent experience in engagement practices.

  • Current Victorian Driver's Licence.
