Job Description
Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.
Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora,你好, hallo, vítejte
Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.
Where and how you can work
Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you're near one), at home or a bit of both, it's up to you.
What you'd be doing in this role
As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
At the moment, this role is focused on:
- Pioneering the development of the architectural platform that enables the offline experience at Canva.
- Identifying opportunities and paths leading us to a reliable, stable and performant offline experience
- Shaping the future roadmap of Canva's Offline platform, blending product impact with infrastructure evolution to support millions of users while enabling sustainable engineering growth.
- Collaborating across multiple teams to lead technically complex and ambiguous initiatives – bringing high-level expertise, context sharing, and strategic clarity to drive scalable solutions.
You're probably a match if you have:
- A track record of translating complex UX needs (e.g. low-network or offline use) into scalable frontend architectures.
- Deep expertise in core web technologies — HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, and React — and a strong grasp of end-to-end web delivery.
- A strong understanding of build systems and performance tooling (bundling, minification, Web Vitals), with an ability to architect for scale and speed.
- Nuanced knowledge of how user experiences vary across browsers, devices, and mobile platforms.
- Experience operating at scale — leading cross-team collaboration, aligning stakeholders, and driving clarity in strategic technical spaces.
- A balance of long-term architectural vision with hands-on execution — mentoring others through design reviews, spikes, and implementation.
- Proven success in initiating and scaling cross-team projects in hybrid product–platform environments.
- Experience in on-call rotations and production support for web-based systems.
Bonus: Familiarity with browser Service Workers and Cache APIs, and experience building Progressive Web Apps (PWAs).
About the team
The Offline Platform sits within the Web Platform, building the foundations for frontend developers across Canva. A key part of what makes Canva a product loved by millions is its performance — and from that lens, we're focused on enabling users to design confidently, regardless of their internet connectivity.
This team is solving one of the toughest challenges in frontend engineering: supporting Canva's full product experience completely offline. We're building the core architecture and tooling that will allow users to create, edit, view, and even download designs—all without a reliable connection.
About the Role
As a Staff Frontend Engineer in the Offline Platform team, you'll be shaping the future of how Canva works when the internet doesn't. Operating at the subgroup level within the Web Platform, you'll lead technically complex, high-impact projects that form the foundation of a truly offline-first experience.
This isn't just about syncing or caching—it's a reimagination of Canva's architecture to deliver a fast, reliable and intuitive experience anytime and anywhere. You'll work closely with teams across Canva to integrate offline support into core features, empowering millions of users globally.
What's in it for you?
Achieving our crazy big goals motivates us to work hard - and we do - but you'll experience lots of moments of magic, connectivity and fun woven throughout life at Canva, too. We also offer a stack of benefits to set you up for every success in and outside of work.
Here's a taste of what's on offer:
- Equity packages - we want our success to be yours too
- Inclusive parental leave policy that supports all parents & carers
- An annual Vibe & Thrive allowance to support your wellbeing, social connection, office setup & more
- Flexible leave options that empower you to be a force for good, take time to recharge and supports you personally
Check out for more info.
Other stuff to know
We make hiring decisions based on your experience, skills and passion, as well as how you can enhance Canva and our culture. When you apply, please tell us the pronouns you use and any reasonable adjustments you may need during the interview process.
Please note that interviews are conducted virtually.
