About the role

The Estuaries and Catchments team is large NSW government science team delivering fundamental data and evidence-based science to improve the management of NSW estuarine and freshwater waterways. Our work includes state-wide and regional strategic assessments aimed at understanding key risks, hazards and threats to the NSW aquatic environment as well as the provision of improved data and tools to underpin management actions.

Our Estuaries and Catchments program delivers exciting and critically important science:

  • Science to address key threats and risks to the NSW marine estate, funded by the Marine Estate Management Strategy
  • Catchment health: delivering water quality monitoring for NPWS to support the development of National Park Eco-health report cards and monitor the impact of threats and stressors on the waterways within the NPWS estate
  • Water quality monitoring for several coastal local government areas to support local government investment decisions and Coastal Management Programs
  • Incident investigation and monitoring for the NSW EPA
  • Investigating river condition and recovery as a result of natural disasters

As the Team Leader Catchment Health you will be part of a supportive leadership team within the Water Wetlands and Coastal science Branch. You will be committed to working collaboratively with a geographically dispersed project team to deliver customer-focused results from technical or scientific projects and to consistently deliver high quality data and advice.

As Team Leader, you will;

  • Coordinate and manage project development, implementation and delivery, including preparing project plans, identifying and coordinating resources, developing and managing budgets and delivering reports to a high standard.
  • Provide the highest standards of open communication, collaboration, data and knowledge management in accordance with department policies.
  • Guide and oversee stakeholder and community engagement activities to foster co-design on the project outcomes and deliverables
  • Support the Science and Insights Division on the development, implementation, management and reporting of scientific projects, ensuring that technical and scientific considerations are properly considered by the Division.

About You

You will have:

  • Experience in developing and leading rigorous science programs
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a flexible, multi-disciplinary team maximising opportunities for collaboration and delivering customer focussed results from science programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and foster relationships with peers including in government agencies and external clients and collaborators to deliver science programs.

Essential requirements

  • Scientific degree in a relevant field and/or demonstrated experience developing and experience leading rigorous, science programs in a relevant scientific discipline.
