About the Role: TraineeLaboratory Soil / Rock Technician

The role involves the preparation and testing of soil and rock specimens for geotechnical and construction materials investigations. Training will be provided in all aspects of laboratory testing, equipment use, and data recording in accordance with relevant standards.   The role requires lifting up to 20kg on a regular basis. 

Pay Rate: $20 – $27 per hour (starting at $20 for trainees aged 18 years, with the pay rate increasing by age and trainee classification, in line with the Award) + afternoon shift loading.

Junior trainees (under 21) are paid at the applicable Award junior rate, while adult trainees receive $27/hr + afternoon shift loading.

Hours: 2pm to 10:30pm (preferred) or 7am to 330pm

What You'll Be Doing

• Using tools, machinery and computers – you'll get your hands dirty
• Preparing and testing soil and rock samples for different projects
• Helping set up and look after lab equipment
• Following testing standards and safety procedures
• Recording results and keeping the lab tidy and organised
• Working with your teammates to get the job done right
• Occasionally talking to clients or site staff when needed

About You

• Reliable, hands-on and keen to learn
• Good with practical work and following instructions
• Enjoys working in a team and helping others
• Safety-conscious and takes pride in doing quality work
• Any previous lab, trade, or construction experience is a bonus
• A Certificate III in Laboratory Skills (or similar) is great but not essential – we'll train you
