About the Role

The School of Allied Health has an opening for a 0.5 FTE Lecturer (Teaching Academic or Teaching & Research) for an Occupational Therapist, preferably with expertise in the area of Ergonomics, commencing in January 2026.

This role is pivotal in enhancing the student learning experience through exceptional teaching practices and innovative curriculum design. The ideal candidate will promote and support student learning through mentoring and leadership, demonstrating a commitment to developing learning and teaching communities.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Teaching

  • Deliver high-quality instruction across undergraduate, honours, and postgraduate levels
  • Engage in continuous improvement and foster student learning through diverse teaching methods (tutorials, practical sessions, workshops)
  • Mark assessments and contribute to curriculum development
  • Coordinate units and supervise honours and postgraduate students
  • Manage associated administrative functions

Research (for Teaching and Research academics only)

  • Engage in high-quality, nationally competitive research
  • Develop a coherent research program and participate as a co or chief investigator for funding applications
  • Disseminate findings through seminars, workshops, and reputable publications - Supervise research students and aim for national recognition in the field
  • Undertake administrative tasks related to research

Service and Leadership

  • Contribute to academic service by fostering collegiality and engagement, along with efficient management of internal service roles.
  • Actively participate in external activities that are relevant to the discipline, as well as engage with the community to enhance outreach.
  • Mentor less experienced staff to support their professional development as educators.

Who we are looking for – Selection Criteria:

  1. A doctoral qualification in a relevant discipline (or equivalent accreditation and professional standing for Teaching Focused Clinical Professional role).
  2. Demonstrated high-level teaching skills and a reflective approach to teaching delivery.
  3. A strong understanding of pedagogical theory and contemporary educational practice relevant to the discipline.
  4. An emerging record of contribution to scholarship in teaching.
  5. Demonstrated experience/capacity to undertake unit coordination.
  6. Demonstrated high-level communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills with a commitment to the development of a collegial and supportive working environment and the ability to interact with students and staff with cross-cultural sensitivity.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to the application of relevant and applicable policies, procedures and legislation in the day-to-day performance of the functions of this position.

**Please note that this recruitment is for one position only. The suitable candidate may be considered for either a Teaching Academic or a Teaching & Research role, depending on their experience, skills, and qualifications.

Role Requirements:

  1. As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia to be considered
  2. Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin's satisfaction.
  3. Applicants must be currently registered with Ahpra.
  4. Part-time position (0.5 FTE) requiring 2.5 days of work per week. The specific workdays are negotiable.
