Universal Cranes is a privately owned family business that operates mobile crane hire branches throughout Queensland and New South Wales. With a fleet of 200 cranes ranging from 2.5T to 1200T, including minicranes, Frannas, all-terrains and crawler cranes, we've grown from a small family business in 1993 into a leading national crane hire company. We pride ourselves on combining the service of a family business with the capabilities of a national fleet.

We are seeking qualified Mechanics, Plant Mechanics, or Auto Electricians to join our maintenance team and support Universal Cranes operations in Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Crane experience is highly regarded, but not essential – we will provide training for the right candidate.

About the role

In this role you will:

  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across a wide range of heavy vehicles and cranes
  • Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults (workshop & onsite)
  • Troubleshoot efficiently to minimise downtime
  • Perform mechanical servicing and repairs
  • Maintain electrical and electronic systems
  • Promote health and safety at all times

Qualifications & experience

Required:

  • Relevant trade qualifications (Diesel Fitter, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, Auto Electrician, or similar)
  • White Card (Construction Induction)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure
  • Positive, team-oriented approach

Preferred:

  • Experience working on cranes, heavy plant, or similar equipment
  • High Risk Work Licence (Open Crane)
  • HR licence or above
  • Familiarity with crane computer and diagnostic systems
  • Manufacturer training on heavy plant or crane systems

Other requirements:

  • Ability to pass pre-employment medical and drug & alcohol testing
  • Police check and visa requirements (if applicable)
