We're looking for a Senior Project Officer to join our Enterprise Portfolio Management Office (EPMO) at the Department for Energy and Mining (DEM). This is your chance to shape the future of project management across a forward-thinking department delivering on South Australia's strategic energy and mining priorities.

About the opportunity:

As a key member of the EPMO team, the Senior Project Officer will be responsible for implementing robust project control disciplines across DEM. You will work closely with project and program teams to drive excellence across governance, scheduling, risk management, cost control, benefits tracking, reporting, and more.

In this role, you'll:

  • Provide expert advice and support aligned with DEM's project management framework ("The DEM Way").
  • Support and challenge projects through project controls techniques and portfolio insights.
  • Contribute to the delivery of timely and insightful dashboards and reports using Power BI.
  • Help embed a strong, standardised approach to project delivery as DEM rolls out a new Target Operating Model.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide Centre of Excellence support on DEM project management processes, tools, and templates.
  • Facilitate and support project scheduling, cost tracking, risk workshops, and lessons learned.
  • Deliver timely and accurate reporting at project, program, and portfolio levels.
  • Ensure adherence to governance and change control processes.
  • Guide project teams through Gateway reviews and compliance requirements.
  • Contribute to the optimisation and performance monitoring of the project portfolio.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Strong knowledge of project management and project control principles, their application, and use of appropriate tools, techniques based on best practice frameworks such MSP, PMI, PRINCE2, and Agile.
  • Proven experience in implementing and delivering project and program controls and/or PMO services.
  • Ability to build, facilitate and maintain effective partnerships with staff across the Department, and external government agencies.
  • Ability to prioritise and work to tight deadlines.

Qualifications:

Essential: A project, programme, or portfolio management qualification such as PMP, P3O, Prince II, MSP

Desirable:

  • Proven Microsoft Power BI or other data visualisation software experience and knowledge
  • Additional qualifications in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) subject would be an advantage.

Remuneration:

ASO6 salary range $98,478 - $104,165 per annum + superannuation

Full-time role, working 37.5 hours per week

Special Conditions:

This is a contract/term vacancy up to 12 months with possibility for ongoing.
