The District Clinical Coding and SNAP Manager plays a pivotal leadership role in overseeing the clinical coding function and the mandatory collection of sub-acute and non-acute patient classification (SNAP) data. This position is accountable for ensuring compliance with Activity Based Funding/Management requirements and NSW Health data submission and reporting standards. Leading a multidisciplinary team of Clinical Coders, Auditors, and Educators, the manager sets the strategic direction and maintains high standards across all coding and SNAP-related activities.
The role involves providing expert guidance, facilitating effective communication, managing workforce capability, delivering targeted education programs, and overseeing the clinical coding audit process. The successful candidate will be responsible for building and sustaining a skilled, well-supported workforce capable of producing accurate, timely, and high-quality outputs that meet operational and regulatory expectations.

What you will bring to the role
- Recognised tertiary qualifications in Health Information Management, ability to meet criteria of membership for HIMAA, or advanced clinical coding qualifications from a recognised and accredited organisation, with a commitment to ongoing skills and competency development.
- Demonstrated high level experience and proficiency in clinical classification using ICD-10-AM and ACHI, across a range of specialties with a proven knowledge of the Australian Coding Standards, casemix/DRGs/SNAP classes and their application in the health system, activity-based funding/management, and NSW Health clinical coding requirements.
- Demonstrated highly developed leadership, oral and written communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated experience in leading and managing a team; knowledge and understanding of health service data and information, demonstrated ability to interpret and facilitate implementation of policy, standards and guidelines, and proficiency in writing operational instruction, briefs and business correspondence/reports
- Qualifications in clinical coding auditing from a recognised and accredited organisation, and /or extensive experience in conducting various clinical coding quality activities, coding audits, and analysing audit results and willingness to complete an auditing course.
- Experience in development and presentation of clinical coding training programs and/or the ability to use varying communication strategies to provide effective training; completion of Certificate IV in Training and Assessment TAE40110 or willingness to enrol and complete same.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse and provide advice on clinical coding, DRG, and admitted and subacute data and communicate, consult and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, including clinical coders, clinicians, and senior management, State and Commonwealth stakeholders regarding issues and initiatives relating to same.
- Proven initiative with high level conceptual and analytics skills, including the ability to problem solve, interpret and report on complex information rapidly and accurately, with capacity to work independently and successfully manage diverse, complex and competing priorities, and set and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in health computer applications such as PAS/eMR and office computer applications including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to produce reports, perform data analysis tasks and provide presentations.
