About The Role
Are you passionate about governance, compliance, and risk management and examining the many components that make up local government? Townsville City Council is seeking a skilled Internal Auditor to play a vital role in strengthening our corporate governance framework and ensuring accountability to our community.

In this role, you will be responsible for assisting the Senior Internal Auditor in delivering the Annual Internal Audit Plan and providing expert advice and reports to the Councils Audit & Risk Committee and Chief Executive Officer, enabling informed decision-making and supporting Members and Management in discharging their responsibilities to the community. The position supports risk-based auditing and promoting effective risk management practices across Council, contributing to a culture of transparency and continuous improvement.

We are looking for someone with strong knowledge of internal audit principles and risk management, excellent analytical and communication skills, and the ability to prepare clear and concise reports. You should be able to work independently when required to complete assigned tasks and collaboratively with the Senior Internal Auditor and Management to achieve governance objectives.

About You
Our ideal applicant will have a high level of written and verbal communication skills with proficiency in preparation of business analysis, correspondence and reports using the Microsoft Office suite of applications with knowledge of an internal control environment for a local government.
