Aboriginal Youth Support Worker

Youth Focus is a for-purpose organisation that creates brighter futures for young people in Western Australia by offering a range of no-cost mental health services. Established in 1994, Youth Focus delivers innovative and accessible mental health services and programs across Western Australia to help at-risk young people aged 12 to 25. A key component of this is our role as the lead agency for a number of headspace centres, including the dynamic satellite headspace Northam, located on Ballardong Noongar Country.

As an Aboriginal Youth Support Worker, you will act as a connection between the community and our headspace Northam services. This role works collaboratively with the community to ensure access to youth mental health services for young aboriginal people.

• Permanent part-time opportunity | 0.6FTE
• Tuesday to Thursday - Wednesday evening till 7pm

With the support of the Clinical Coordinator, this role is a vital part of deepening and building community engagement with Aboriginal young people.

Key responsibilities include:

• Empowering young people, families and their support networks to maximise positive outcomes through engagement of headspace Northam services
• Provide opportunities for engagement with young people, such as facilitating events, recreational activities, and cultural activities
• Supporting the development of culturally appropriate services and programs.
• Work with other providers in the community to support the collaboration of services and care which meets the individual needs of young people
• Liaising with headspace Northam's Youth Reference Group, Community Engagement Officer, and other Wheatbelt Towns as required
• Building and maintaining stakeholder relationships within the community including local schools and employment services

To be considered for this position, applicants will have:

• 2-3 years' experience in community engagement and partnership development
• Exceptional interpersonal skills and an ability to work with a broad range of people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences
• Local knowledge and experience in the Northam and / or Wheatbelt Region
• Ability to work independently within a collaborative team
• Proficient in the effective use of Microsoft Office and related programs
• 'C' Class Driver's Licence
