Transform lives, every single day
Do you want a career that means more? At Anglicare Sydney, we bring the strength, the support and the strategy to make it happen.
We're a well-respected not-for-profit that's been serving society's most vulnerable for more than 160 years. Each year, we achieve life-changing outcomes for the 40,000+ people who rely on our person-centred support. And now, we're extending our reach and impact even further.
As a Health Chaplain based at St Vincent' Hospital, you'll play a critical role in providing pastoral care to patients, their families, staff, and volunteers in hospital settings. You'll be welcomed into a compassionate, respectful and purpose-driven community where we don't just talk about values – we live them. This is a permanent part-time role working 1 day a week.
Your opportunity
You will deliver pastoral support to patients in times of need or crisis, encourage Christian patients in their faith, and offer spiritual support to people of all backgrounds. You'll develop and teach pastoral training programs, maintain effective partnerships with churches, and contribute to a respectful and culturally aware work environment. You'll also participate in funeral services, support relatives and staff, and help organise chaplaincy support teams and volunteers.
With integrity and resilience, you will:
Provide pastoral care and support to health patients, families, staff, and volunteers, including reasonable on-call duties
Encourage Christian patients through chapel services, small group ministry, one-to-one care, and access to Christian resources
Offer opportunities for non-Christian patients to explore faith, including pastoral support and access to chapel services and literature
Facilitate spiritual support for people of other faiths by connecting them with appropriate rituals and resources
Maintain a diary of chaplaincy activities for pastoral supervision
Participate in funeral services as requested
Support relatives and staff in moments of need
Organise and oversee chaplaincy support teams and volunteers
Promote cultural awareness and respect, including consideration for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
Contribute to a safe and clean workplace, complying with safe work practices and participating in safety initiatives
What you'll bring
You are a compassionate professional who thrives on making a difference in people's lives. You bring strong pastoral care skills, excellent communication, and a collaborative approach.
You will also need:
Completed recognised theological studies (degree or diploma)
Minister of the Anglican Church of Australia, Diocese of Sydney (preferably ordained priest or deacon)
Eligibility for licence or authorisation from the Archbishop and Certificate of Appointment
Completion of APC course (or CPE), or commitment to complete within 12 months
Proven experience in ministry and pastoral care
Ongoing membership and participation in a local Anglican congregation
Personal commitment to spiritual growth in the Christian faith
Police Check and WWCC clearance
