This is an exciting opportunity to join Australia's most trusted charity in a key leadership role as Philanthropy Manager for the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Tasmania.
You will be responsible for setting and delivering an outstanding strategy to secure vital funds for the RFDS Tasmania, through communication, fundraising and philanthropy initiatives. This includes acquiring and stewarding our amazing supporters with the highest possible standards across programs including appeals, major gifts, bequests, auxiliary and community fundraising, and grants.
You will build and maintain meaningful relationships and networks with individuals and groups who support the RFDS to deliver our essential services to regional Tasmania.
The Philanthropy Manager will oversee the governance and financial management of this portfolio to ensure the highest standards of integrity and cost-effectiveness.
You will be responsible for overseeing and supporting our Fundraising Officer and Media & Marketing Officer (your team), to deliver excellent fundraising and philanthropy programs, donor stewardship and engagement activities in a cost-effective manner. To further deliver high quality campaigns, appeals, events, and engagement activities which develop relationships across our organisation to ensure a pipeline of major gifts.
About you (Selection Criteria)
The ideal candidate, will have:
At least 3 years' experience in fundraising, philanthropy, communications and community engagement or other relevant roles.
Outstanding relationship management, networking and interpersonal skills and experience.
Proven strategic capability to deliver an outstanding fundraising and philanthropy programs with a focus on preparing the RFDS for the future.
Demonstrated experience in successful team leadership and team capacity building.
The confidence to build strategic relationships, meet new people, and engage with people inside and outside our organisation and deliver community presentations.
Excellent communication skills including for impact reporting, proposals, and supporter communications.
Deep understanding of campaigns and appeals management, major gifts and bequests.
Experience and attention to detail in budgeting, financial management and fundraising governance.
The highest standards of ethics and integrity to ensure the interests of our donors, patients, team members and the RFDS are protected.
Advanced interpersonal and communication skills with the sincerity, tact and diplomacy to deal with complex issues.
Exceptional and ethical influencing and negotiation skills enabling the conversion of relationships, that result in a significant funding commitment.
Success in the role
To be successful in the role you will be an experienced fundraising, development or marketing manager with a proven record of managing a team, specifically, you are able to demonstrate your ability in:
- Strategic planning
- Broadening and growing a variety of fundraising streams
- Gifts, Wills and Grants - with strong strategic grant and acquittal skills
- Communications management
- Improving operational efficiencies
- Meeting financial and operational targets
- Building relationships with donors, corporates and other key stakeholders
- Creatively using communication tools such as digital media
- Meeting KPI's to achieve high outcomes

What you will need
- Minimum - University Degree Batchelor of Business/Marketing/Journalism or similar.
- Previous experience in fundraising, philanthropy, communications and community engagement or other relevant roles.
- A passion for working as part of a strong fundraising culture, where delivering an outstanding experience for donors is key, along with a solid understanding of the philanthropic landscape in Tasmania.
- A solid understanding of relationship, major donor, and corporate fundraising.
- The ability to create compelling proposals and a persuasive case for support.
- Success in supporting a small team to achieve goals and increase revenue.
- Exceptional interpersonal, team building, stakeholder management and leadership skills
- Proficiency in budget forecasting and monitoring.
- Capacity to travel regionally.
