About The Role
As part of the WA Operations department, our PSO Controllers perform real time operation control of the South West Interconnected System (SWIS) to identify risks and act on these as needed.

Whilst performing real time Generation Dispatch and Power systems Security functions, you will also maintain secure and reliable operating states in line with the WEM rules. You will be part of a shift team that operates on a 24/7 basis.

This is a permanent position, based in Perth.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Perform the real time Generation Dispatch and Power System Security functions in accordance with established procedures and standards.
  • Real time monitoring, analysis and control of the Power System to identify issues and violations and perform complex computer-based network analysis to determine solutions and act when necessary. Take decisive and timely action following a contingency to ensure the power system remains in a secure and reliable state.
  • Real time monitoring and analysis of the WEM operation, identify market issues and violations and determine and take corrective actions.
  • Maintain detailed knowledge of power system operating procedures.
  • Provision of advice and recommendations to the Manager WA Power System Operations on day-to-day matters and engage and collaborate with employees to build a strong and effective departmental team.

What You Will Bring To The Role

  • Degree or Diploma qualifications in Electrical Engineering (preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience in power systems in a real time or planning environment.
  • Knowledge of the function and vulnerability of major Interconnected Electricity System components.
  • Excellent interpretative and problem-solving skills, with an ability to make timely decisions to resolve complex technical issues based on a balance of analysis, wisdom, experience and practical judgement, with and without precedents.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with proven negotiation and influencing skills, and the ability to manage stakeholder expectations and respond in a timely and appropriate manner.
