We are seeking an experienced and multi-skilled Telecommunication Field Engineer/Rigger to work in regional Western Australia.

This pivotal role involves leading the on-site installation, commissioning, maintenance, and ongoing operations of complex telecommunication infrastructure, combining high-level engineering, rigging expertise, and crucial network performance monitoring.

Core Responsibilities

The successful candidate will play a critical role in maintaining network uptime and integrity by:

  • Performance Monitoring & Optimization: Actively monitor network and communication system performance, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and efficiency gains.
  • Fault Analysis & Remediation: Analyse equipment failure trends and recommend strategic replacements or upgrades.
  • Incident Management & Support: Offer on-call support for critical network issues and contribute feedback to fault resolution processes.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical advice and support across departments, especially regarding onboard communication hardware faults.
  • Project Support: Support project work as directed by on-site communications supervisors.

Field Deployment & Technical Deliverables

The role requires hands-on execution of field tasks, including:

Installation, Rigging & Structural Work

  • Safe execution of rigging and dogging tasks (lifting, moving, and placing loads).
  • Undertaking the installation and upgrade of existing tower steelwork and mounts to support new equipment and load requirements.
  • Installation, Labelling, and Weatherproofing of Remote Radio Units (RRUs) and Antennas.
  • Precision installation and alignment of Microwave Dishes and Remote Antenna Units (RAUs).
  • Monitor wireless signal strengths across active areas and conduct preventative maintenance on infrastructure.
  • Relocate communication trailers as needed to maintain optimal radio coverage.

Technical Operations, Commissioning & Testing

  • Perform commissioning and troubleshooting of complex microwave and RF systems.
  • Utilize field operations experience and hands-on troubleshooting skills to quickly diagnose and resolve network issues.
  • Skilled in terminating and testing cables, antenna systems, RRUs, and microwave links.
  • Conduct essential Testing competencies including PIM, sweep testing, fibre, and waterproofing checks.

Site Management, Safety & Documentation

  • Actively supporting Technicians and crews to ensure all site works are delivered safely and timely.
  • Proactive completion of all required safety paperwork (JSAs/SWMS) and client-specific documentation.
  • Familiarity with permit applications and handover documentation.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualification: At least have a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Telecommunications, Networking, or Communication Systems.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of hands-on experience in wireless network construction, maintenance, and operations.
  • Vendor Expertise: Proven experience with Cisco, Nokia, and/or Ericsson wireless network equipment and standards.
  • Excellent working knowledge of industry safety standards for working at heights (e.g., Tower Rescue, EWP, First Aid).

Desirable Skills (Highly Regarded)

  • Proficiency in upgrading and modifying wireless sites (mobile, fixed wireless, broadcast).
  • Experience in erecting major infrastructure such as steelwork, monopoles, towers, and similar structures.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret construction and as-built drawings.
