Position Summary

The College Nurse is a vital member of the Mary MacKillop community, responsible for the management and development of the College's Health Centre. This role plays a key part in promoting the health, safety, and wellbeing of students and staff through first aid, chronic condition support, health education, and wellbeing initiatives.

In collaboration with the College's pastoral and wellbeing teams, the Nurse will also contribute to preventative health programs and the professional development of staff in student health matters.

The position is part-time and ongoing, with hours on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and operate the College Health Centre
  • Provide first aid to students and staff, and respond to health-related emergencies
  • Oversee and administer medication in line with policy and legal requirements
  • Maintain up-to-date medical records, action plans, and documentation
  • Coordinate chronic condition management (e.g., diabetes, epilepsy, anaphylaxis, asthma)
  • Communicate effectively with families and staff regarding student health
  • Liaise with external health professionals and providers as needed
  • Coordinate student immunisation programs and annual staff flu vaccination
  • Maintain first aid kits and medical supplies across the College
  • Deliver and organise staff training in first aid and chronic condition management
  • Assist with health education delivery in the Years 7–10 curriculum
  • Support wellbeing initiatives and student health promotion programs
  • Support College events requiring medical supervision or first aid
  • Maintain cleanliness and resourcing of the Health Centre

  • Uphold the highest standards of care to ensure student physical and emotional well-being
  • Hold, or be willing to obtain, a valid Working with Children Check and National Police Record Check

  • Commit to ongoing professional learning relevant to the role
  • Maintain up-to-date first aid qualifications and knowledge of current medical practices
  • Continue to build proficiency in the use of ICT systems and College databases

  • Reports to: Business Manager and Deputy Principal Wellbeing
  • Internal Liaisons: Principal, Leadership Team, Pastoral & Wellbeing Staff, Teachers, Administrative Staff
  • External Liaisons: DOSCEL, medical professionals, families, prospective families

Qualifications & Certifications

Essential:

  • Current registration as a Division 1 Registered Nurse (or equivalent)
  • First Aid Certifications:

  • HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid

  • HLTAID014 – Provide Advanced First Aid
  • HLTAID016 – Manage First Aid Services and Resources
  • HLTAID015 – Provide Advanced Resuscitation
  • 10710NAT – Allergy and Anaphylaxis Awareness
  • 22556VIC – Management of Asthma Risks and Emergencies
  • 22303VIC – Verifying the Correct Use of Adrenaline Autoinjectors

Desirable:

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
  • Experience with school management systems and learning management platforms

Skills & Attributes
  • Previous experience in nursing or first aid (preferably in a school setting)
  • Understanding and support for the Catholic ethos and Josephite tradition
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Organisational, time management, and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive information confidentially
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and database systems

Other Duties
  • Support the Front Office Team as required
  • Assist with telephone reception and administrative support
  • Perform additional duties as directed by the Principal or their delegate
