Are you passionate about environmental and social impact assessment and ready to make a difference in the regulation of South Australia's mineral resources sector? The Department for Energy and Mining (DEM) is seeking a motivated and skilled Assessment Officer to lead and manage application assessments in line with legislative requirements and best-practice regulatory standards.
About the opportunity:
In this pivotal role, you'll work closely with industry stakeholders, government experts, and the community to ensure rigorous, transparent, and timely assessments of mining and exploration proposals. You will also contribute your expertise to the development of policies and guidelines, supporting continuous improvement in regulatory services across the state.
This is an exciting opportunity to apply your environmental assessment knowledge, project management experience, and analytical thinking in a role that balances autonomy with collaboration—driving high-quality outcomes for both industry and the environment.

Key Selection Criteria:

- Legislation & Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding and practical experience with South Australian mining and environmental legislation, including policies, processes, and community engagement principles.
- Project & Impact Assessment Expertise: Proven experience in planning and managing projects, particularly in preparing environmental and broader impact assessments within the mineral resources sector.
- Industry Insight: In-depth knowledge of the mineral resources industry, including current trends, issues, and their future implications.
- Communication & Collaboration Skills: Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to build relationships, resolve conflicts, and continuously improve work practices.
Qualifications:
Essential: Degree in Science, Environmental Management or Engineering related to the resources industry.
Remuneration:
PO2 salary range $88,255 - $97,667 per annum + superannuation
Full-time role, working 37.5 hours per week
Special Conditions:
- This is a contract/term vacancy up to 2 years
- Some out of hours work and inter/intrastate travel, including fieldwork may be required
- A current SA driver's licence is required
- The position is based in the Adelaide Office
