About the role
Reporting to the Director of Fundraising, the Philanthropy Specialist will establish and grow the organisation's Major Gifts and Bequests program from the ground up. This newly created position offers the chance to design and deliver a best-practice approach to major donor and bequest development, working closely with the CEO, Board and clinical leaders to inspire transformative giving. The role is full-time, based in Melbourne with a hybrid model (approx. 50/50 office and WFH).
Key responsibilities
As the Philanthropist Specialist, you will:
- Build and manage a pipeline of major donors and bequest prospects.
- Deliver high-quality stewardship including personalised communication, donor visits and bespoke events.
- Develop and implement a Gifts in Wills program and manage estates administration.
- Identify and secure philanthropic grants through compelling submissions to trusts and foundations.
- Educate and influence internal stakeholders, including the CEO, Board and senior leaders, to champion philanthropy.
- Contribute to annual budgets, KPIs and reporting to ensure revenue targets are achieved and exceeded
About You
You're a proactive, data-driven fundraiser with a flair for building lasting relationships and inspiring generosity. Ideally you bring:
- 3–5 years' experience in philanthropy, major gifts or bequests with a track record of meeting or exceeding fundraising targets.
- Confidence to engage high-net-worth donors and discuss legacy giving (or the willingness to be coached).
- Strong project management skills and the ability to work both strategically and hands-on.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to influence and educate senior stakeholders.
- A self-motivated, resilient approach and a passion for making a tangible impact in the health sector.
