The Fabrication Manager is a senior leadership role within Maritime Constructions, responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company's fabrication operations. This includes the planning, coordination, and delivery of high-quality fabricated components for marine and civil infrastructure projects. The role requires a technically skilled individual with a strong background in metal fabrication, exceptional leadership and communication skills, and the ability to manage teams, resources, budgets, and client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily operations of the fabrication facility, including workshop planning, staff allocation, and resource scheduling
- Lead and manage fabrication teams including supervisors, boilermakers, welders, and apprentices.
- Ensure fabrication outputs meet design specifications, tolerances, and industry standards.
- Collaborate with project managers and engineers to plan and execute fabrication works as part of broader marine construction projects.
- Monitor project timelines, budgets, and resource use to ensure financial targets are met.
- Liaise with procurement and suppliers to ensure timely availability of materials and equipment.
- Evaluate and manage subcontractors or outsourced fabrication partners when required.
- Champion a strong safety culture across the fabrication team, ensuring compliance with WHS legislation and company procedures
Skills and Experience
- Minimum 8–10 years of experience in fabrication, including at least 3–5 years in a leadership or managerial roles.
- Expert knowledge of structural steel, aluminium, and stainless-steel fabrication practices, including welding processes and workshop operations.
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings, tolerances, and material specifications.
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage fabrication workflows effectively
- High-level project coordination and planning skills with a focus on commercial outcomes.
- Knowledge of relevant Australian Standards (esp. AS1554.1), WHS legislation, and quality control systems.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to liaise with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
