PROJECT SUPERVISOR WITH A WORK-LIFE BALANCE - Brisbane

Design your own shift times for award-winning market leader

Are you looking for a position that offers an ability to work autonomously, and allows for a great work-life balance? Do you enjoy the responsibility of running all aspects of your jobs but want the security of fulltime employment? If so, this is the position for you.

  • Competitive salary package -a total starting package of approximately $122K gross (includes base wage, superannuation, leave loading, and car allowance). Fuel card, e-tag, phone, and tablet/laptop (as we are fully digitised) also provided. After 12 months the wage will increase to between $127K and $133K gross depending on performance. The car allowance will be replaced with a company car within 12 months (we are currently in the process of a staggered rollout of company vehicles).
  • Great flexibility –create shifts that work for you e.g. if you need to attend an appointment or head off early for a family holiday, you can start or finish later, leave and come back or flex your times to suit. No required after-hour or weekend work.
  • Be cutting edge– we are an award-winning family business – winner of the FBA Australian Family Business of The Year Award (second generation) - have doubled our revenue in the last 5 years and our blue-chip clients include Aveo, Levande, Retire Australia, Reside, RSL Lifecare, and Churches of Christ.
  • Enjoy autonomy and support –you have almost 100% autonomy on how you meet your targets, plus we employ a dedicated team to support our supervisors.
  • Work with purpose and on diverse projects – we help Australian retirees by preparing beautifully finished homes and units that make the step into retirement living an enjoyable experience.
  • Career opportunities –promotion from within is our first priority with 100% of managerial appointments in the past 2 years being internal promotions.
  • Grow your skills and expertise– we have a comprehensive induction process, and we offer upskilling to further your professional development.
  • Great place to work –as a long-term family business, we blur the lines between work and leisure, and we don't tolerate toxic people – we move them on straight away. You'll also have a voice to help us continuously improve what we do.
  • Experience job security– we are a 30-year-old business, and we keep our people employed for the long-term by managing our pipeline of work.
  • We have an unheard-of safety record in the construction industryand haven't had a single reportable incident for over ten years.

About Us:

Established in 1993, Townsend Building Services is an award-winning, building and construction industry expert delivering projects Australia-wide. A family business, we started out as a partner to insurance companies like Alliance and Westpac, assisting clients with catastrophic repairs. In 2017 we created a new "Facilities" department to focus on retirement village projects for organisations such as Aveo, RSL Life, Retire Australia, and Churches of Christ and are doubling our revenue in this area every year.  On the back of this growth, in October 2024 we took the Facilities department and turned it into a new company called Taylor Building & Renovation Services (TBRS).

With teams based in NSW, Victoria, South Australia, and Queensland, we offer nation-wide services and won FBA's Australian Family Business of The Year Award (second generation) for the quality of our offerings.

Yet it is our people that make the real difference. Like the employee who started out in a supervisor support role and became our Regional Manager. We promote from within as much as possible and we have a great company culture. Many of our people are long-term employees - and we look after them. We're continuously improving our business, and our long-term goal is to be the market leader in renovation and refurbishment services for the retirement living industry throughout Australia.

About The Role:

We have one vacancy for high-achieving, trade-qualified builders with supervision experience to join our expert team. Reporting to the regional manager, you'll be a knowledgeable self-starter, responsible for overseeing a diverse range of projects, and bringing them in on time and on budget. You will never be bored. In an average day you might be visiting a site to scope works; checking in with our tradespeople and subcontractors regarding ongoing projects; or speaking with clients to discuss aspects of their refurbishment. You need to be willing to get on the tools when needed but it will be your responsibility to manage your time to make sure all your jobs are progressing. You won't be thrown in the deep end; we have a structured onboarding system to help you learn the TBRS way, plus you'll have the services of our dedicated supervisor support team.

As there is a lot of liaising with customers and a variety of tradespeople, you'll need good relationship-building, communication and problem-solving skills. As the face of our business, you'll also need to uphold our professional, ethical and building standards. Because our clients have set time frames for job life, you will often be working in a fast-paced environment, meeting critical deadlines. There are some quieter months so in these periods you can work more flexibly.

We genuinely support work life balance so if you need to start and finish earlier or later or pick up kids from school before coming back to work, we are happy to accommodate you. As an equal opportunity employer, we encourage applications from everyone (our current management team is almost 50:50 male/female). This is a fantastic opportunity for those who have excelled in the past and are looking for a significant role with a highly respected company.

To Be Successful in This Role You Need:

  • A trade qualification in carpentry or similar, and a track record of success. You'll also demonstrate knowledge of industry costs and time frames required to generate a scope of works.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, handle multiple projects at different locations and creatively problem solve, in a fast-paced environment to meet critical deadlines.
  • A track record in delivering safe outcomes, on-time and on-budget.
  • Prior experience in estimating or project supervision is advantageous but not essential (we can train you).
  • Good communication skills and demonstrated success in developing and maintaining good relationships with past colleagues, clients and stakeholders.
  • A demonstrated commitment to continual improvement and learning.
  • A can-do attitude and willingness to do what is needed to get your jobs through to completion while maintaining exceptional quality.
