Third Place Design / Atlantis Liquid Dynamics
Summary
Join our innovative team as a Designer, where you'll play a pivotal role in creating inspiring, sustainable, and adventurous outdoor spaces. This dynamic role requires flexibility to support both our adventure playground and aquatics divisions. You'll collaborate closely with internal engineering, drafting, and technical design managers to deliver imaginative, high-quality projects that foster community engagement and adventure. If you're passionate about artistic, playful, functional, and eco-conscious design, this is your chance to make an impact in a fast-paced, creative environment.
About the Role
We're seeking a talented and adaptable Designer with a Landscape Architect or Architect background to join our Richlands head office in a full-time capacity. This role is essential for designing vibrant, sustainable outdoor spaces, including adventure playgrounds, aquatic environments, and recreational parks that spark joy and connection. The ideal candidate will bring 2-5 years of experience, a creative flair, and the ability to seamlessly shift between supporting client-side teams and internal project stakeholders.
You'll work across diverse projects, collaborating with clients, consultants, and internal teams to deliver designs that are both innovative and practical. This role suits someone eager to grow, embrace varied responsibilities, and contribute to meaningful community-focused projects.
What You'll Be Doing
- Site Analysis: Assess the site's potential, considering factors like climate, soil conditions, topography, sun exposure, and water flow to ensure successful design implementation.
- Design Concepts: Develop creative ideas for functional and visually appealing outdoor spaces, such as adventure playgrounds, aquatic areas, recreational parks, water features, and pathways, with a focus on optimal product placement to meet client objectives and community needs.
- Technical Drawings: Produce detailed plans, drawings, and specifications using design software like AutoCAD, Rhino, Inventor, or similar, to outline features, hardscaping, and interactive elements.
- Drawings and Presentations: Create compelling visual presentations and refine designs based on feedback to effectively communicate concepts to clients and stakeholders.
- Client Communication: Work closely with clients and stakeholders to understand their needs and visions, present concepts, and ensure the final outcomes meet expectations.
- Integration of Elements: Incorporate sustainable and creative features, including interactive play structures, water-efficient systems, and eco-friendly materials (with optional plant integration where relevant to enhance playful environments).
- Oversight and Trends: Conduct site assessments, provide input on project implementation to uphold design quality, and stay informed on industry trends, safety standards, and local regulations for cutting-edge creativity.
Key Skills
- Creativity: An artistic eye for creating beautiful, cohesive, and adventurous outdoor environments that blend playfulness with functionality.
- Spatial Perception: The ability to visualise and plan spaces effectively, ensuring optimal layout for adventure and aquatic features.
- Technical Proficiency: Skill in using design software, including CAD programs like AutoCAD, Rhino, and Canva, to create detailed plans, drawings, and presentations.
- Client Communication: Strong skills to collaborate with clients, understand their visions, and refine designs based on feedback.
- Adaptability: A flexible mindset to juggle multiple projects and pivot between tasks in a fast-paced setting.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding of local regulations and standards for outdoor spaces, including safety, accessibility, environmental, and building codes.
- Horticultural Knowledge: Basic familiarity with plants, soils, and growing conditions for optional integration in designs (particularly for landscaped recreational spaces).
