We are seeking an experienced Senior In-House Counsel to join our in-house Legal team based in Canberra. In this pivotal role, you will provide high-quality legal advice and support across a broad range of practice areas, including contract law, corporate and commercial law, employment law, privacy, intellectual property, and healthcare regulation.

About the Role

Reporting to the General Counsel, you will act as a trusted legal advisor to the business, supporting Aspen Medical's operations in Australia and internationally. You will play a key role in identifying and managing legal and compliance risks, drafting and negotiating commercial arrangements, and advising on regulatory and governance matters that impact the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide timely, pragmatic legal advice to internal stakeholders across a wide range of legal matters.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts and agreements in line with Aspen Medical's risk appetite.
  • Identify, manage, and mitigate legal and compliance risks under relevant legislation and industry standards.
  • Monitor and interpret legal and regulatory developments and support implementation where required.
  • Support governance, compliance, and internal policy initiatives across the organisation.
  • Liaise with Australian regulatory bodies, including OAIC, ASIC, AHPRA, and AHRC.
  • Maintain accurate legal records in LawVu and ensure compliance with internal legal processes.

About You

  • Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor (Australian or equivalent qualification).
  • Current or eligible Australian practising certificate.
  • Minimum 5+ years PQE gained in private practice and/or in-house roles.
  • Strong experience in commercial, regulatory, contract, and/or intellectual property law.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • High attention to detail and strong time-management skills.

Desirable

  • Experience within highly regulated industries such as healthcare, government, or defence.
  • Previous in-house legal experience supporting complex commercial operations.
