Job Description:

Key Responsibilities

Design, configure and maintain LAN/WAN/SD-WAN network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, segmentation, wireless access and connectivity to transport client systems.

Manage connectivity between metropolitan offices, regional sites, remote field locations and datacentres.

Monitor, analyse and optimise network performance, ensuring minimal downtime and high availability for transport services.

Troubleshoot complex network faults, perform root-cause analysis, escalate incidents and implement corrective actions.

Develop and maintain high-level and low-level network design documentation, diagrams, configuration records and change registers.

Work with stakeholders (transport operations, vendor partners, communications teams) to translate client-requirements into network solutions.

Ensure compliance with security standards, policies and regulatory requirements pertinent to transport infrastructure (e.g., critical systems, safety of operations).

Provide on-call support, as required (including outside business hours) to meet service level commitments for the transport network.

Participate in network upgrade projects, migrations and new site roll-outs for the transport client, including testing, cut-over and hand-over.

Maintain inventory of network equipment, firmware versions, and coordinate patching and maintenance windows.

Skills & Experience Requirements

Several years' (typically 5+ years) proven experience as a network engineer working with enterprise networks, ideally including transport or mission-critical systems.

Strong technical knowledge of wired and wireless networking technologies, routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs, WAN connectivity, SD-WAN, network segmentation, QoS.

Experience in hybrid network environments including on-premises, cloud and remote/field sites.

Experience with network design documentation (HLD/LLD), configuration management, change control.

Experience with vendor equipment (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, HP/Aruba) and network protocols such as OSPF, BGP, VRF, MPLS.

Excellent analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with ability to work under pressure in support of critical services.

Strong interpersonal, communication and stakeholder-management skills (able to discuss technical matters with non-technical clients).

Ability to work independently and as part of a team, manage multiple priorities, meet service levels and adhere to change management.

Relevant IT/networking certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent) or demonstrated equivalent experience.
