About the role
We are seeking a Computer Scientist/Engineer to drive the development of an AI-powered portable diagnostic device for detecting elevated intracranial pressure. In this role, you'll lead the design of embedded software platforms, integrate AI models with real-time video processing hardware, and ensure reliable, scalable system performance.
Working within the Vision Sciences group at the UTS Graduate School of Health, you'll collaborate with engineers, clinicians, and industry partners to translate cutting-edge research into clinical and commercial impact.

About You
We're looking for a software engineer with advanced expertise in system architecture, real-time programming, and embedded systems development. The ideal candidate will bring excellent troubleshooting and debugging skills across video acquisition, data processing, and hardware integration, coupled with strong version control practices to ensure collaborative and compliant code development. Clear communication and thorough documentation are essential, as is the ability to translate user and system requirements into robust, scalable, and clinically relevant software solutions within a multidisciplinary team.
To be successful in this role you will need to meet the following key selection criteria for this role:
A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline with extensive relevant experience. A postgraduate qualification (Master's or PhD) is not required but would be considered desirable.
Extensive experience in designing, developing, and maintaining embedded software systems, particularly for real-time data processing and device integration.
Experience working with edge computing platforms (e.g., NVIDIA Jetson) and integrating software with hardware components in resource-constrained environments.
Experience managing system-level testing, debugging, and optimisation across hardware-software interfaces.
Experience working within collaborative software development environments, including use of version control systems (e.g., Git), documentation practices, and code review processes.
What We Offer
Base Salary Range: $140,965 - $147,678 (HEW 9)plus17% superannuation (pension)
The position is full-time and will be made 12-month fixed term basis.
