About the role

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Chief Midwife to lead, co-ordinate and develop policy and strategies relating to midwifery workforce, professional practice and the midwife role in maternity services, in the context of the broader NSW Health maternity policy and strategic direction. This is a unique opportunity to influence statewide policy and drive initiatives that shape the future of the midwifery profession.

What you'll be doing
- Lead the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of statewide midwifery initiatives.
- Provide high-level advice to the NSW Health Minister and the Secretary NSW Health along with relevant Deputy Secretaries
- Oversee major initiatives to support the NSW Health midwifery workforce to be skilled, resourced, and aligned with health service needs and priorities.
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders including Directors of Nursing and Midwifery, professional organisations, and education providers.
- Drive reform and continuous improvement in the midwifery profession.
About you
We are seeking motivated and committed individuals who can support the work of NSW Health with:
- Currently registered as a midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia with extensive experience in clinical, senior management and leadership roles.
- Demonstrated high-level policy analysis, development and evaluation skills and the ability to contribute to emerging trends and the enhanced delivery of midwifery services.
- Demonstrated understanding of midwifery professional regulation and implications for midwives, managers and the NSW Health system.
- Demonstrated experience and skills in developing and managing relationships across a wide and complex group of stakeholders.
- Evidence of highly advanced verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated high level of knowledge and understanding of contemporary midwifery practice and challenges, the NSW health system and current programs that underpin the major reform initiatives in the NSW health sector.
