Hiring: Head Chef – Japanese Restaurant (Surry Hills, Sydney)
Location: SushiMori, Surry Hills (2 min walk from Central Station)
Work Hours: Full-time, Tuesday – Sunday
SushiMori is a small but busy Japanese restaurant located in the heart of Surry Hills.
We are seeking an experienced, business-minded Head Chef to lead our kitchen and support the restaurant's long-term growth.
Responsibilities:
• Lead and manage daily kitchen operations
• Maintain excellent food quality, consistency, and presentation
• Recruit, train, and manage kitchen staff, ensuring smooth teamwork
• Manage stock levels and food cost control to maintain profitability
• Regularly develop and update menus to attract customers and keep revenue stable
• Oversee ordering, supplier relationships, and kitchen hygiene
• Work closely with management on seasonal specials and cost planning
Requirements:
• Proven experience as a Head Chef or Senior Sushi Chef in Japanese cuisine
• Strong leadership and team management skills
• Business-oriented mindset: balance creativity with cost efficiency and sales
• Reliable, hardworking, and detail-oriented
• Valid working rights in Australia
