Longtrail Farms is currently looking for a Junior Farmhand to join our team located in Parilla, Southern Mallee. This entry level position gets involved in all facets of daily farm operations with a particular interest in Livestock. What you would expect day to day:

With over 10,000 ha under management, you will have the opportunity to start your agricultural career and work across farms undertaking the following:

  • Assisting with the broad gamut of livestock operations including nutrition, animal health and husbandry.
  • Undertake all general farm duties across the potato and broadacre cropping operations which may include assistance with grading, planting and harvesting of all crops.
  • Carry out general farm repairs and maintenance and farm development including but not exclusively fencing, water reticulation systems and general planting
  • Learn the operation of farm machinery including but not limited to loaders, JCB telehandler, tractors and forklifts, if competency and license requirements are confirmed.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs and maintenance on plant and equipment.
  • Contribute to staff and safety meetings including toolbox meetings and raise any safety issues in a timely manner.

  • Previous experience operating farm machinery – desirable
  • Willingness to complete a chemical User Permit
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook and ability to use Apps
  • Good Interpersonal skill
  • Flexible to work weekends and extended hours through busy periods
  • Able to meet the physical demands of the position including working in hot and remote climates
